Choosing an Osteopath

As the popularity of Osteopathy grows in Canada, it will be important to become an informed consumer. Since there is no regulation of the manual practice of Osteopathy in Ontario, no provincial standards of education have been set.

It is important to verify that the practitioner that you consider is a graduate or student of an osteopathic program that has an established track record and that offers a program with a reasonable number of courses, and supervised clinical hours.

As a service to its graduates and the public, the Canadian College of Osteopathy currently fields between 100-200 calls each week from people seeking osteopathic care. The administrative staff attempts to match the inquirer's request with a nearby practitioner. In the future the College intends to post the names and contact numbers of those students and graduates who welcome new referrals.
